From Cathedral Village Arts Festival to Regina JazzFest 2016!

I really enjoyed performing in Cathedral Village Arts Festival (aka CVAF). The 5×5 Gala was a spectacular event, indeed. I have to say my favorite was the first and final events. Act 1 was entitled Drum & Dance with African djembe players, Latin drummers and Japanese drummers. It was so energetic! The final Act 5 was the LED Light Show and Dance, which was colorful and full of life.  The whole week was amazing, and I reflected that part of the gift of such a festival is the lasting legacy of those who are inspired, all those who now pick up a drum, or pick up their wiring pen or computer, or who practice that dance step, or who audition for a play. I would like to heartily thank my singing partner Corinne Groff, a good friend with sage advice; thanks to Joanne Crofford for her extraordinary organization of Act 3 (Evolve) as well as the whole 5×5 25th Anniversary Gala; thanks to Misty & Heather from Fada dance (& Orion), and thanks to Barbara Tomporowski, CVAF Festival Chairperson. I was disappointed that I did not complete my Bob Boyer mural-inspired song “Blanket of Horses” on time for this year, but I promise, CVAF will be the first to hear it when the new CD comes out!

…And talk about inspiration, I am so looking forward to JazzFest Regina! And why not? Bill Charlap is opening JazzFest 2016, he has “performed and recorded with many leading artists of our time, ranging from jazz masters Phil Woods and Wynton Marsalis to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand” (from JazzFest 2016 program).  And I saw award-winning Canadian pianist and vocalist, Laila Biali at the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival and just loved her; so definitely looking forward to hearing her again. jazzfest-regina-logo-2016Hearty thanks to Mr. Peter Champagne, Director of the JazzFest Regina 2016, who continues to be supportive of me and my music; thanks to Pam Daly, another organized person extraordinaire with a huge smile, and BIG thanks to the volunteers from both events. And of course, thanks to you for listening. You make all the difference.

In closing, it is appropriate and right to acknowledge and make space for the tragedy at Orlando. And, speaking of Barbra Streisand, we may consider her words from the Tony Awards…

“I’m very thankful to be in the company of the people in this theater, the artists who write the plays, the composers and the lyricists who write the songs, and the actors who bring them to life. Art can entertain us and educate us and at times like this, console us.”
